The World Judo Championship has its own coin18.08.2014
The International Judo Federation announced on October 2, 2012 that in 2014 for the first time in history Russia will host a full-fledged World Judo Championship in the city of Chelyabinsk.
One of the reasons why Chelyabinsk was chosen was the successful organization of the European Judo Championship of 2012 in the city.
Now the Judo Championship in Chelyabinsk will have its own gold and silver coins put into circulation by the Bank of Russia on August 15.
The commemorative coins have been struck at the Moscow Mint of Goznak. Artists of the Design Center of Goznak Lidia Evdokimova and Vladimir Ananyin depicted the moment of battle of two judoists. Against the mirror surface of the coin there are relief images of the sportsmen and an inscription «Чемпионат мира по дзюдо» (“ World Judo Championship”). Against the matte background there are branches of sakura and an inscription “ЧЕЛЯБИНСК 2014” (“Chelyabinsk 2014”). The coins have been minted in “proof” quality of pure gold and sterling silver. The face value of the gold coin is 50 roubles, the number is 750 pieces. The face value of the silver coin is 3 roubles, the number is 3 thousand pieces.
